So we have a pretty successful video game adaptation at the top. Not good reviews but certainly not damning helped it open pretty much in line with expectations. Love or hate it, you've got to give them credit for releasing it as an R and not a PG13.

In the second spot we have Dreamer, the Seabiscuit for kids movie starring Kurt Russell and Dakota Fanning, who nurse an injured horse back to health and enter it into a Breeders cup. Wonder what happens?

Still going very strong and losing just 24% of last weeks box office is the Wallace & Gromit movie. A side fact - in its opening weekend in the UK, W&G actually took more than it did in its opening weekend in the US.

Curiously, after a massive expected drop-off for The Fog, it only lost 37% of it's business and is now in profit. Again, this will open the market up for more pg13 remakes. Expect to see The Thing. There's already a Creature from the Black Lagoon and Omen remake in the works.

In at five is the only other new entry to break into the top ten. The Charlize Theron drama North Country, about the first ever case of sexual harassment bought in the US by a group of female mine workers. Theron is already being tipped for the Oscar, or at the very least, a nomination.

Sixth, and losing a good chunk of its alreay poor business, is Elizabethtown. Even with cuts, the movie has still be noted as too long and too indulgent. Flightplan holds at seven and continues to take a few million each week. It's steadily getting closer to $80m and may well pass it before it drops out the top ten.

The rest of the top ten is made up of older releases. History of Violence' strong word of mouth has kept it in the top ten longer than some expected given that its seen as a intelligent adult movie. In Her Shoes & Two for the Money which both opened in the same week look to leave the charts in partnership too.

Elsewhere, last week's flop, Domino, dropped out the top ten and the George Clooney movie Goodnight and Good luck continues to do excellent business in limited release. The Ewan McGregor movie, Stay, opened at 11. The movie had been left on the shelf for some time and was slipped into schedule almost to clear the shelf of it.

In limited release the new Steve Martin movie, Shopgirl, opened best. The Shane Black comedy/action Kiss Kiss Bang Bang faired slightly poorer.
